Whether you’re a fan of true stories or prefer escaping from reality and surrendering to fiction, do we ever have film festivals suited for your taste.First up is SFFILM’s ninth annual DocStories, a showcase of innovative nonfiction features. Running Nov. 2-5, it includes an in-person selection and pared-down streaming program. For a complete program, to purchase a pass and/or tickets, visit sffilm.org/year-round-programming/doc-stories/.Here are a few films we recommend. The opening night feature comes from great nonfiction storyteller Matthew Heineman. Now, he rips our hearts out with the Netflix film “American Symphony.” It begins as a traditional documentary describing the creative process of an acclaimed musical force, Jon Batiste. Then it morphs into a moving portrait of two lovers as they deal with one’s painful health diagn...

SANTA CLARA – Defensive end Chase Young is coming to the 49ers to form what they can only hope will be a formidable, pass-rush tandem with Nick Bosa, a former Ohio State teammate. The 49ers acquired Young from the Washington Commanders for a third-round draft pick, a team source confirmed less than an hour before the NFL’s trade deadline. Young must pass a physical for the deal to become official.Young’s career opened with a similar path as Bosa’s: both were No. 2 overall picks (Bosa in 2019, Young in 2020), both won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, and both sustained anterior cruciate ligament injuries in their second seasons. Now Young and Bosa reunite to try leading the 49ers (5-3) out of the three-game losing streak they’ve taken into this week’s bye.Young, 24, produced five sacks for Washington, which fell to 2-5 on Sunday and also traded fellow defensive lineman Montez Sweat on Tuesday (to the Chicago Bears).Young (6-foot-5, 264 pounds) is on the f...

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 11:46:42 GMT

The Warriors made two moves Tuesday looking ahead to next season, exercising fourth-year options on the rookie contracts of Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.Kuminga, 21, was the subject of significant hype this preseason as he seeks to translate his high-level athleticism into production on the court after a frustrating second year in the NBA. He already raised some eyebrows during last week’s season opener when coach Steve Kerr stuck with him over Andrew Wiggins in the closing minutes of the Warriors’ win over the Suns. The former No. 7 overall pick is a key piece of the Warriors’ future plans at the power forward spot as Draymond Green continues to age.Moody, 21, started and scored 13 points in Monday night’s win over the Pelicans in New Orleans and has been a valuable depth role player on the wing for the Warriors since they drafted him 14th overall out of Arkansas in 2021.Both were bench contributors to the Warriors’ 2022 title run, then Moody took ...
